Chronicle #42: When Antibes slows down
An opening between old Antibes walls reveals the sea, under calm and quiet light.
There are days when Antibes changes pace without warning.
Nothing obvious at first glance.
But something slows down.
It’s not complete silence.
More a quiet sense of calm.
Steps are slower, voices softer, gestures simpler.
In the old town of Antibes, you feel it immediately.
The streets seem wider, people more present.
You no longer avoid — you observe.
You stop trying to “do” the town.
You move through it differently.
Or rather, you let it move through you.
The sea is never far.
It appears at the end of a street, between two walls, like a breath.
And gently sets the rhythm.
Even time feels different.
Minutes stretch, moments take up more space.
You stay longer than planned, for no particular reason.
On the Cap d’Antibes, this slowing down becomes obvious.
A few steps are enough to leave the usual pace behind.
And reconnect with something simpler.
It’s a feeling hard to explain.
But easy to recognize.
The feeling of no longer needing to rush.
Maybe that’s what Antibes off-season truly is.
A place where you don’t save time.
But where you find it again.

About La Jabotte
La Jabotte is a small boutique hotel hidden just 60 meters from the sea.
A secret garden, a peaceful atmosphere, and a slower rhythm — a place where evenings feel softer, quieter, and a little outside of time.
