Chronicle #41: November by the sea in Antibes
The sea in Antibes stretches beneath a shifting November sky, with sails, clouds, and deep light.
In November, the sea speaks a little differently.
It no longer tries to shine or charm.
In Antibes, it is simply there: wide, calm, sometimes solemn, always beautiful.
You sit in front of it without a plan.
Not to sunbathe, not to “make the most of it” as one might say in summer.
Just to look, breathe, and let your thoughts slow down.
The light changes faster at this time of year.
One moment the sky opens, the next it darkens, then clears again.
The sea follows along, turning blue, silver, almost black, then soft once more.
Maybe that is why November suits it so well.
It gives it depth.
Less scenery, less noise, more presence.
On the Cap d’Antibes, a few minutes of walking are often enough.
From La Jabotte, it takes almost nothing to find yourself facing the horizon again.
And you quickly understand that the sea, out of season, needs no explanation.
There are also details you notice better now.
The wind shifting just before rain, a white sail in the distance, clouds lingering above the hills.
Small things, yet they fill the day differently.
In summer, the sea accompanies you.
In November, it answers you.
You bring it your silence, and it gives back a wider kind of calm.
Maybe that is what November by the sea really is.
Not a postcard, not a promise of perfect sunshine.
Just something real, immense, and quietly essential.

About La Jabotte
La Jabotte is a small boutique hotel hidden just 60 meters from the sea.
A secret garden, a peaceful atmosphere, and a slower rhythm — a place where evenings feel softer, quieter, and a little outside of time.
