Chronicle #32: The holidays we keep to ourselves
Some holidays are too peaceful to talk about.
Some guests promise they will tell everyone about La Jabotte.
And then, just before leaving, they stop at the gate, look once more at the garden and laugh:
“I’m going to tell all my friends…
Actually no… otherwise we won’t find a room next time.”
It’s a joke, of course.
But not entirely.
Because some places have something fragile about them.
Not fragile like something precious.
Fragile like a balance.
In Antibes, summer can be lively, joyful, sometimes a little too full.
The beaches fill up, the terraces too, and the streets of the old town sometimes feel like a cheerful festival.
So some travellers develop a very simple strategy.
They keep their best holidays to themselves.
It’s not selfishness.
It’s almost a form of tenderness.
A small hotel discovered by chance.
A garden hidden from the street.
A morning coffee that lasts far too long.
You simply think:
“This one… I’m keeping.”
Maybe that’s why many stays at La Jabotte begin in the same way.
Someone arrives and says:
“We heard about you… but very discreetly.”
A friend.
A brother.
A couple met somewhere along the way.
The best places often travel like that:
by word of mouth.
And then there are the other travellers.
Those who discover Antibes on their own.
Those who take the time to stay a few days and explore the quiet corners of the Cap d’Antibes.
Sometimes these are the moments we prefer to keep in memory rather than on Instagram.
Because in the end, the best holidays are often the ones we don’t need to show.
A book open in the garden.
Birds in the morning.
The sea just a few steps away.
And suddenly everything becomes very simple.
So yes, some guests leave promising to tell everyone about La Jabotte.
And then they pause.
“Well… maybe not everyone.”

About La Jabotte
La Jabotte is a small boutique hotel hidden just 60 meters from the sea.
A secret garden, a peaceful atmosphere, and a slower rhythm — a place where evenings feel softer, quieter, and a little outside of time.
