Chronicle #29: Forgetting the Day in Antibes

Antibes has a curious power: it makes the days of the week disappear.

At some point during the holidays, someone inevitably asks:

“What day is it today?”

And no one knows the answer.

At La Jabotte, that is usually a very good sign.

At the beginning of a stay, travelers still remember the calendar.

They mention Monday, Wednesday, sometimes even meetings that once existed somewhere in an agenda.

But little by little, something loosens.

The rhythm changes without warning.

You wake up with the light filtering through the shutters.
You have breakfast in the garden.
You walk to the sea.

And suddenly… the week no longer exists.

In Antibes, days are a little like waves.

They arrive gently, slip away quietly, and return the next morning almost the same.

Perhaps that is why we stop counting them.

A morning becomes simply a morning by the sea.

An afternoon becomes a swim or a nap.

An evening becomes a glass of rosé in the garden.
And if you feel like stepping out for a while, Antibes at night has its own quiet charm, with golden streets and the sea just around the corner.

And the calendar quietly fades away.
