Chronicle #37: Walking without a destination in Cap d'Antibes
A sunny walk along the ramparts of Old Antibes, with the Mediterranean just beside you.
Walking without a plan.
There is a way of walking in the Cap d’Antibes that we often forget.
No destination, no goal, not even checking the time.
Just moving forward because it feels good.
At first, it feels unusual.
You look for an endpoint, a specific cove, something to “see”.
But quickly, you realize it doesn’t matter.
Walking without a plan means letting the path decide.
A turn catches your eye, the light shifts, the scent of pine slows you down.
You stop choosing. You simply follow.
Along the coastal path, every turn becomes an invitation.
A rock, an opening to the sea, a bench placed there for no reason.
You stop more often than you walk.
And maybe that’s the secret.
Not trying to plan every step.
Not simply taking a walk, but enjoying every moment of it.
As you go, something loosens.
Thoughts become lighter, movements simpler.
Even your body finds its rhythm effortlessly.
There is no distance, no performance.
Only a succession of small moments:
sun on your skin, the sound of water, wind through the leaves.
At La Jabotte, we can always tell who has walked like this.
They don’t describe a route.
They describe a feeling.
And maybe that’s the real luxury of Cap d’Antibes.
To walk without a destination…
and still miss nothing.
