Chronicle #36: October in Antibes, softer light on the French Riviera
The sea sparkles under a soft October light, off the coast of Cap d’Antibes.
There is a moment, in Antibes, when the light changes quietly.
Not a dramatic shift, not the official end of summer, just… a gentle transition.
One morning, you open the shutters, and everything feels calmer, warmer, slower.
October doesn’t announce itself, it settles in.
The beaches empty without disappearing, towels give way to walks, and the sea still carries the memory of summer.
It’s still there, loyal, just quieter.
On the Cap d’Antibes, the paths breathe differently.
The coastal trail becomes almost intimate.
You meet more locals than travelers, calm eyes, footsteps with nowhere to rush.
The light becomes an artist.
It no longer shines, it touches.
It lingers on stones, slips across pastel shutters, and settles in the garden like an old friend.
At La Jabotte, this is a season we almost keep to ourselves.
Breakfast slows down, voices soften, silences grow more present.
Even the cats seem to notice something has shifted.
Life continues outdoors, of course.
But differently.
A coffee in the sun becomes a full moment, a book lasts longer, and days no longer need to be filled.
October is the month of details.
A falling leaf, the scent of ripe figs, a beam of sunlight crossing the terrace at an unexpected hour.
Simple things, almost invisible, yet unforgettable.
And then there is that quiet feeling:
having Antibes almost to yourself.
As if the town finally trusts you, letting you in on its real rhythm.
Maybe that’s what October in Antibes truly is.
Not an ending.
But a softer way of continuing.

About La Jabotte
La Jabotte is a small boutique hotel hidden just 60 meters from the sea.
A secret garden, a peaceful atmosphere, and a slower rhythm — a place where evenings feel softer, quieter, and a little outside of time.
