Chronicle #20 : Coffee in the sun
It arrives quietly.
(But with a smile).
A cup placed on the table. The sun already there.
Nothing extraordinary. Just that exact moment when the day begins before the clock does.
That coffee isn’t anything special.
It doesn’t promise miracles. (Or does it?).
But it isn’t in a hurry. And that already changes everything.
The question comes almost every time.
Slightly suspicious, almost worried:
“Is the coffee good?”
We smile. We say yes. Calmly. No sales pitch.
Then they order a second one.
Sometimes a third.
No more questions.
The cup empties, rests, warms again in the sun.
The body takes over from the schedule.
No one talks about time anymore.
They look at the garden.
A cat passes by. The dog stretches. Light shifts.
That’s when it happens.
They don’t leave the hotel.
Not because they can’t.
Because they don’t feel the need to.
The coffee goes cold.
So does the conversation.
Silence settles in. Easy. Welcome.
It’s just a coffee in the sun.
But that’s often the moment
when you truly realise
you’re on holiday.
