Chronicle #28: Going Back In When Everyone Else Goes Out in Antibes
When the town begins to wake up… some travelers quietly disappear.
There is a very particular moment in Antibes.
The terraces start filling up.
Glasses clink.
Footsteps echo through the narrow streets of the old town.
The city is getting ready for the night.
And you… you go back home.
Not because you’re tired.
Because you choose to.
People often imagine that holidays on the French Riviera mean:
late dinners, reservations days in advance, hopping from restaurant to restaurant and photographing every cocktail.
But there is another way to travel here.
A much gentler one.
Picture the scene.
You return from a day at Cap d’Antibes.
Your skin still warm from the sun, your hair salted by the sea.
It’s 7:30 pm.
The light turns golden.
And instead of chasing the next “trendy” address, you push open the gate of a hidden garden just 60 meters from the beach.
At La Jabotte, this is often when the magic begins.
Guests slowly return.
A book in hand.
A beach towel over the shoulder.
Sometimes escorted by Baghera the cat, who happily acts as the official welcome committee.
The pool becomes quiet.
While the town accelerates, everything here slows down.
A drink from the honesty bar.
The scent of pine trees from Cap d’Antibes.
The faint sound of the sea somewhere beyond the villas.
And that strange feeling that holidays are not about doing more…
But about doing less.
Some evenings, we even see couples hesitate.
“Should we go out for dinner?”
Then they look at the garden.
The light.
The calm.
And suddenly they realize they’ve already found the best place of the evening.
Because the truth is: Antibes is beautiful at night.
But it is even more beautiful when you observe it from a peaceful corner, slightly away from the buzz.
A place where you can hear the night birds instead of the lively chatter of the terraces.
Yes, sometimes holidays mean going out, celebrating, enjoying the nightlife.
But sometimes…
They simply mean coming back.
Closing the door gently.
Breathing in the scent of the garden.
And realizing that the real luxury, after all, is calm.
