Chronicle #25: Evenings begin

Chronicle #25: Evenings begin

There is a precise moment when the day shifts.

It’s no longer afternoon.
It’s not yet night.

It’s the moment evening begins.

The light drops lower.

More golden.
More forgiving.

It softens the edges.
It softens faces.

At La Jabotte, you hear doors opening gently.

Guests returning from the beach.
Skin still tasting of salt.
Towels hung out without hurry.

Someone mentions a restaurant.

Another is still undecided.

Addresses are compared.
Tips are exchanged.

The evening slowly takes shape.

The garden changes rhythm.

Glasses appear.
Laughter rises a little.
The sky turns almost pink.

Even the cats choose their strategic spot.

These are simple moments.

A lighter t-shirt.
Skin still warm from the sun.
That feeling that the day was full — but never rushed.

No one knows yet how long the evening will be.

Maybe a late dinner.
Maybe just a few words shared under the lights.

But what matters is this beginning.

This suspended moment.

Summer evenings don’t begin with noise.

They begin here.
Gently.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what you needed without knowing it.
