Chronicle #13 : The luxury of doing nothing in Antibes
When time truly slows down on holiday
There is something we never really plan on holiday.
And yet, it is often what we are quietly looking for.
Doing nothing.
Not the bold, declared kind of nothing.
Not the performative version.
But the real one. The kind that arrives gently, without warning.
At La Jabotte, it usually begins with a small detail.
A chair you did not intend to sit on for long.
A shadow moving across a limewashed wall.
A silence that asks nothing from you.
You sit down for five minutes.
Then ten.
Then you forget why you sat down in the first place.
Doing nothing here is not an activity.
It is a permission.
The permission to leave your phone somewhere far away.
To stop checking the time.
To postpone that thought saying, “we should…”.
You read a few pages.
You close the book.
You notice a leaf moving, a cat passing by, the light slowly changing.
And somehow, it feels like enough.
Real luxury today is mental space.
A space where nothing is expected from you.
Luxury is no longer about stars or square metres.
At La Jabotte, no one will ask about your plans.
There is nothing to prove.
Nothing to optimise.
Nothing to justify.
Time has no purpose here.
And that is exactly why it feels precious.
Doing nothing is not boredom.
It is space.
Space to breathe.
To notice.
To slow down without explanation.
That is usually when holidays truly begin.
About La Jabotte
La Jabotte is a small boutique hotel hidden just 60 meters from the sea.
A secret garden, a peaceful atmosphere, and a slower rhythm — a place where evenings feel softer, quieter, and a little outside of time.
