The Jabotte Journeys #2: Antibes museums and other delights

Antibes is not only made of sunlight, beaches and small harbours.

It is also an artists’ town, shaped by colour, softness and that Mediterranean light that turns every shadow into a painting.

The Picasso Museum

Housed in the Grimaldi Castle, perched above the sea, it is a must-see. Picasso worked here in 1946, and the building still carries that raw, electric energy. You will find paintings, drawings, ceramics and a joyful boldness unique to him. Step onto the terrace and the sea completes the masterpiece. Pompon would have loved it: every window looks like a frame.

The Peynet Museum

Raymond Peynet is the illustrator who gave love its tender, mischievous face. His museum, just steps from the market, is a poetic bubble. You will find his famous lovers, posters, sketches and gentle humour. Light, joyful, nostalgic, like a holiday memory one chooses never to lose.

The Archaeology Museum

Set on the ramparts, it tells the ancient story of the town. Amphorae, mosaics, marine artefacts and traces of Greek and Roman life. A perfect place to understand that beneath the stones of old Antibes lie more than two thousand years of history.

The Fort Carre

Not exactly a museum, but a landmark. An eagle’s nest above Port Vauban, surrounded by nature. Superb views and a visit that constantly leads the eye back to the sea. A wonderful stop before or after a stroll along the Billionaires’ Quay.

The Jabotte escape

You can easily visit two museums in one day. Morning: Picasso or Peynet. Afternoon: wander the ramparts, explore the harbour, enjoy a sunny coffee, then walk back to La Jabotte.

Meanwhile, Pompon would have calmly inspected the brochures, convinced that all the art in the world should fit within a single sunbeam.
